Like a rabbit in the headlights

Posted on August 10 2015

I'll admit I'm really not comfortable in front of the camera. When working on my recent Design Boobook Trail it was the thought of posing for the photos that held me up. For some reason, and I'm sure many of you can relate to this, as soon as a camera is pointed at me any natural ability I may have to move gracefully, smile or look natural goes out the window. I turn into Robot-Rebecca moving around looking stiff and feeling incredibly uncomfortable. I also manage to adopt a facial expression that is part pained, part stunned. Not a good look. But photos were inevitable so finally I arranged a shoot last weekend. It was a perfect, rainy and overcast day, everything was good to go, I just had to get my head in the game.

"Just relax! Just look.. normal!!!" my husband urged as he did his best to work his magic with the camera. Great. Luckily I married a very patient man who also has a special talent of making me laugh, so he proceeded in poking fun at me and telling jokes until I was giggling away, shedding my former robotic-self. The process may have taken a little longer than we planned but we got there in the end.

Smiles at last!

Once my moment in the spotlight was over I took charge of the camera and spent the rest of the morning exploring the scrub. I find it so inspiring to stop and examine the shapes and textures created in nature.

A beautiful little fern. Love that contrast.

I spent some time observing the curves and shapes of this stunning, dead fern.

A dear little red native heath.

I'm not sure what this one is, do you know?

My mini partner in crime had a lovely time exploring too..

Whoops, looks like the birds are eating off the grass today!

An Adelaide Rosella, such beautiful colours.
